About

In 2008, I began experimenting with solar panels and their capabilities for creating environmentally-activated sound. What kinds of sounds can you make with solar panels? What if you don’t use batteries? What about super capacitors? Lots of questions emerged.

This website documents research in what I call “Solarsonics,” or making sounds with the sun. Currently centred at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, this is ongoing research that has resulted in many failed experiments, as well as interesting and compelling sounds. The goal of this research is to discover new ways to make sounds and sonic art using sustainable energy practices. Here I hope to pull together both experimental work and finished pieces that result from this artistic practice-as-research.
